The first color layer was blown by the glass blower and then the subsequent color layer was blown over the initial layer. In the final glass blowing step, the clear glass was then blown over the two shades of blue and hand swirled into the ribbing on the outside of the vase.
This effect creates a gorgeous color change from dark cobalt blue to a soft calming lighter aquamarine to finally clear. The bottom of the bowl was then ground and polished clear. The piece stands 10" high to the top of the handle and is 9-1/2" wide with a 2-1/2 round footed base. It is also quite heavy, weighing 3.8 lbs (1.72 kg). The piece is in excellent condition with very light wear particularly on the base where there are some light scratches.
There is one very small nick on the handle section that is not noticeable. No noticeable issues anywhere else.
