Today's 20th Century Classics become Tomorrow's sought-after Antiques. A STUNNING ART DECO COLLECTABLE FOR YOURSELF OR A NICER-THAN-NEW GIFT FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Item: Listed here is a superb example of a 1930s German moulded glass flower centrepiece bowl in a colour and style that is pure Art Deco.

This eye-catching period piece is by the renowned German glass-maker, WALTHER GLAS/WALTHER AND SOHNE. The three-piece ensemble is known as as the'FISCHE' bowl set, which includes a Flower Frog that features classical figurine,'ARABELLA'. This example is presented in frosted semi-transparent pale blue glass, a popular Early 20th Century colourway. We are delighted to able to offer it with its figurine Flower Frog (with ten stem holes). Which sits loosely in the well of the bowl together with a black glass base.

The item takes its' FISCHE' bowl name from the attractive embossed decoration featuring fish and sea weed, which is obvious to the touch underneath the bowl, but which manifests itself on the upper surface as etching-like line images; Image 4 that tries to show the satisfying visual effect. The figurine also features a large fish near her lower legs. Please note: We are Art Deco enthusiasts and also at an age when we must start downsizing, so this delightful set is from our own collection of Art Deco glass and several other great examples of Art Deco glass are currently listed. They are all in the same remarkably good condition as when we acquired them... Unsurprising given that they spent the latter part of their life with us in a display cabinet.

It is free from any cracks and it has picked-up only one small slither-chip on its scalloped rim during its long life, which is rare for pressed glass over 80 years old and approaching official antique status (see image 8). Even more unusual, it still has what appear to be its original'ARABELLA' figurine frog.

The black glass base, is quite loose fitting, so it may or may not be the original, but the scale and shape looks right. A complete set of three is quite rare because figurine frogs and bases are often damaged irreparably when a vase or bowl is being moved around (See'Condition' notes below for fine detail). Background information: Walther Glas was founded in 1865 in Saxony, Germany.

In 1950 during the Cold War the company was expropriated. Production began again in Siebenstern, Germany, in 1951 and still produces glassware today. Walther & Sohne, the brand name for many years, was best known for their superb range of Art Deco centrepieces, figurines, bowls and vases, like the one we are listing, which they made during the 1930's and 40's. Pressed Glass was a product of the the Industrial Revolution.

It was aimed originally at the developing Victorian Middle Class, but eventually it was for everyone and became an affordable alternative to the decorative glass produced by big names such as Lalique. For a sense of the scale of the vase and base we compare it to a soft drinks can (see image 2). Bowl: Rim to rim diameter 10.25in/26cm; height including base 3.5in/9cm.

Figurine Flower Frog: Height 7in/18cm. Black glass base: 4.5in x 11cm x 6in/15cm (bottom of the base measured as graduated). Condition: All our items are pre-owned and usually range between 10 and 210 years old, so they inevitably (and reassuringly) show some authentic signs of age and use, as per our earlier comments.

We always do our best to describe items well and picture them from different angles so as to try to get buyers as close to them as possible. Apart from the rim slither chip already mentioned, anything else we've found as scars of this trio's long life is conveniently out of sight and doesn't affect the display impact. Please let us know and we'll do our best to ensure the package is on its way to you within 24 hours.
