1920'S RENÉ LALIQUE YELLOW OPALESCENT "VOLUBILIS" SHALLOW BOWL. The bowl was called "Volubilis", the French common name for the morning glory flower. It was designed in 1921 and is listed as catalog number 383 in the book. Catalogue Raisonné de l'oeuvre de Verre.

The bowl features three large morning glory flowers, the stems of which form opalescent feet. This shallow bowl measures about 8 1/2" wide and stands approximately 2 1/4" tall. The edge of one of the flowers is marked R.

LALIQUE in raised block letters. I don't see any other engraved or pressed markings. It's guaranteed to be an original René Lalique bowl and NOT.

For the past 130 years, Lalique has been a defining name in the world of glass, a name synonymous the world over with grace of design and mastery of pioneering techniques. René Lalique opened his first workshop in Paris in 1886, then manufactured his glass at a factory in Combs-la-Ville. In 1921, a new factory was opened in Wingen-sur-Moder which is still in use by the Lalique Company today. During his career, he would create over 1,500 glass designs including clocks, mascots (hood ornaments), paperweights, statues, lamps and light fixtures, vases, dishes, stemware, fountains, perfume bottles and much more.

René Laliques artistic vision has inspired countless others, his creations some of the most sought after pieces of glass in the world. Condition of this collectible Lalique bowl is VERY GOOD with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. The inside surface has a few light scratches. The glass has several small bubbles and some tiny white inclusions (see photos). This bowl displays well and would make a nice addition to any collection.
