You are viewing a fabulous piece of art glass by Luciano Gaspari for Salviati & Company, Murano, Italy. This was likely designed to be a cigar ashtray by size and design, but is also listed as a bowl. It contains uranium, commonly referred to as Vaseline Glass, and glows magnificently under black light. It has a sleek mid-century modern design and was produced sometime between 1955 and early 1960's while Gaspari was the artistic director at Salviati & Company. The last photo shows the grooved design at the base which Gaspari used on several of his designs. This piece measures approximately 9" long, 5 3/4" wide and 3 3/4 high, and weighs in at a whopping 4 lbs. This gorgeous work of art is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, and displays prominently. He was named the artistic director for Salviati & Company in 1955 and served until 1968. He is a renowned artist, and had several one artist prominent exhibits among many other accomplishments.
