Site filters from view the posting of sales by U. Sellers containing the names of some of the better and more highly collectible English and German porcelain companies. Offered in this sale is an extremely rare - at this point possibly unique - group of twelve blown intaglio cut glass bowl and matching underplate sets (24 pieces total) that were made by Thomas Webb in England sometime between 1936 - 1949.
Each of the twelve bowls and twelve plates is marked with a circular acid etched mark which you can see illustrated in the 2nd image. From what I understand this mark was used in the late 1930s and through the 1940s. The fine, detailed, intaglio cut decoration features waterlilies or lotus blossoms and leaves set against a cut wave or water like background.
The detail and quality of the decoration is second to none. The pictures do not do justice.
These are even more beautiful and delicate then they appear in the pictures. The bowls measure roughly 2 1/4" deep x 4 5/8" in diameter. The under plates measure 6 1/8" in diameter x 1" deep. This set has been wrapped in a basement storage since 1979.The condition of all twenty four pieces is MINT. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, surface scratches or evidence of grinding on any of them.
Its incredible that a full set of twelve (24 pieces) has survived in tact with no damage for all this time. Please be sure to enlarge and zoom each image for a close up view of the detail and the condition. I always guarantee everything that I sell to be as described. The item "24pcs (12 sets) THOMAS WEBB Blown Intaglio Cut Glass LILYPAD Finger Bowl + Plate" is in sale since Wednesday, April 13, 2016.
